Flooding calls into question gippsland desal site’s utility amid flooding
The river will likely rise at about 1m per year over the next 30 years. If the area is left unfinanced, there will only be a tiny trickle of fresh water available and the region will eventually suffer from massive drought.
The Gippsland Desal Authority says that there has been $4bn in project costs associated with constructing the desal project.
‘It’s very unlikely that these projects will be economically viable to the extent that they were undertaken as originally planned.
‘The Gippsland Authority will make an ongoin바카라g assessment of its current status to determine if these issues pose a future risk to its capacity to meet its long-term needs for water’
The NSW Government has promised to build the desal in line with an ambitious 10-year plan to improve its water quality.
